Why I am Starting a Blog Called "Get Ahead Learning Talks About..."

Hello Teachers!

    Let me be clear. I LOVE my job teaching science at a public high school.  Why?  Each year has it own unique feel.  Each day is different from the last.  The camaraderie amongst collogues, the autonomy allowed within your own classroom, the....SCHEDULE!  Witnessing the development and evolution of students as they grow into fine young adults.  The list goes on and on.  

    From time to time I and others will discuss the joys of teaching.  I can't have a Get Ahead Learning Talks About... blog and exclude the good stuff!  However, the love of the game and the bright side of it all is not why I am pursuing this blogging adventure.  At least, it's not my immediate inspiration.  Rather, I wanted a creative, honest, and quite frankly, a therapeutic outlet to discuss many of the other this-n-that's of the teaching profession.  From what challenges a first year teacher may have as well as the challenges a much experienced teacher may be struggling with too.  From classroom dynamics to value of professional development to managing time appropriately OUTSIDE of the classroom to keeping a pulse on one's mental health.  These issues, and others, are what I'm interested in when it comes to seeking engaging conversation.

    This being the inaugural blog and in conjunction with the fact that I have never blogged before now, who knows what is to be expected in the future.  I CAN tell you some of my day dream however.  I see

• Blog articles that are diving deep into the details of certain nuances of teaching
• Blog articles that are essentially advice pieces from my personal experience
• Discussion panels with fellow teachers and we will talk about teaching
• Interviews with experts in different positions within the education system
• Interview with experts in the field of science
• Interviews that engage in the world beyond education and science (but then again...I'll find a way to bring it full circle!)
• Tours of interesting facilities
• Highlight charitable groups
• Videos made or found that I find value in sharing

And. So. Much. More.  That's the dream, at least...
